The Welcome Address was by Rameez Mahamoor, one of those who initiated this group in the U.A.E and he also gave a brief introduction of how this group was formed two years ago by five committed old Royalist’s and their contribution towards the success of this Group. Rameez also explained the objective of forming a proper Committee in the U.A.E. and the Achievements to-date, within this short period of time. He thanked all present members and the members who have already moved out from the U.A.E., for their continuous commitment and support.
Roshan Drahman explained the activities and events that took place during the last two years.
The events and activities were; The Largest Project undertaken by any Old Royalist’s Overseas Group to date-The Royal College Pool Re-tiling Project, a few family Get-togethers, Stall at Avurudu Pola (Sharjah Stadium), Two Royal- Thomian Cricket Matches, Royal-Thomian Rugby match, Inter School Cricket & Soccer Tournaments and 4 Blood Donation Campaigns.
Chanaka Warnapura tabled the accounts (since inception), and briefed on how the income was generated from various sources and how it was spent for the Pool Project and other activities.
The summarized accounts position as at date was circulated to the members. No Queries or clarifications were raised.
Rameez thanked all for the support received, to complete the Royal College Pool Project. He said the task was made easier due to the role played by all the members including several R.C.U. – U.A.E. Committee Members who are not with us today, especially A.J.Namal Fernando (Gillette), Asoka Bandaranayake, S. Ramachandran, M.U. Namal Fernando, Nazir Mayadeen and the rest. The floor was open to questions and clarifications from the audience.
Jayatilaka Bandara raised the possibility of obtaining a letter from R.C.U. –U.A.E. in case of Admission of children to College. Rameez explained that once we are registered with the RCU and ORGACO, then we could put this proposal to a vote with the General Membership, before a decision is taken.
Mr.Denzil Gunawardena raised a point on the Legal status of this committee in the U.A.E. Chanaka Waranapura explained that, R.C.U.- U.A.E. will register with the Sri Lankan Consulate in Dubai, and obtain approval which will give us some hold in this part of the World.
Brian Perera pointed out that, we should have more funding from the members. Rameez stated that members’ participation in all events is important and more corporation is required. He said this year would see more emphasis on members’ get-togethers and Team building.
Rameez spoke of the quick setting up of our own Website and the good work done by Shiraz Sideek and Reza Mustafa.
The proceeding for selection of office bearers was handed over to the Head table.
The Election was called to order by Denzil Gunawardena and acceptance of nominations was begun. |
