Royal field two teams this year for wider participation this year. The teams had to weather the hot & humid conditions during the tournament. Royal `Blues’ was captained by Ponniah Thayananthan & the team consisted of Under 40 veterans who did extremely well during the Roy-Tho encounter. Royal `Gold’ tam was captained by Lasantha Dantanarayana.
Royal `blues’ after getting a good score batting first gave away the match to Trinity `Blues’ due to some wayward bowling . Went to the plate draw & beat Maris Stella (Negombo). But, lost in the second round to Strong Zahirian outfit.
Royal` Gold’ took the better of strong Sebastanites (A) with a handsome win. Due to getting a `bye’ in the first round; it was too much of a wait for Royal `Gold’ before taking on young Antonians (Katu) team .The last hope for Royal to make further in roads to Quarter final evaporated when Royalists lost their focus & lost the match . |
