Royal decided to select only one strong team for this year’s tournament. The captaincy was given to Sanjeewa Warnakulasuriya in the absence of regular captain for 2007, Manjula Premarathne who had pulled out due to work commitment. It as yet again a test for the fittest of all participating teams with the rising temperatures as the day wore on.
It was a Royal-Thomian once again when the Royalists were drawn to meet the traditional rivals Thoras for the second time of this year! In reply to Thora’s 81/5 score in 5 over’s, Royal went about in business by hitting hapless Thora bowling for 40 runs in the first over !. From there, it was a mere consolidation to rattle up the balance runs & Royal finished the match with overs to spare. It was a match that Thoras might rather put in the back burner.
The Royal smiles however turned sour when a strong challenge from St. Benedicts made Royal to play ordinary cricket & lose the match very badly.
