After a hiatus of one year; ORUAE with Trinity OBA, agreed to revive the Gulf Bradby shield encounter in 2007. The main reason to skip the 2006 edition was due to ORUAE being overburdened with activities, and due to injuries sustained by a few leading players during the Lion’s touch Rugby tournament.
A committee comprising members Trevor, Samantha, Thayananthan & Madhava was set up to once again repeat the outstanding success of the previous Bradby encounter.
The event was held on December 07th at the Sharjah Wanderers grounds.
For the first time, newspaper articles on the Bradby appeared in the local daily Khaleej times adding another feather to the ORUAE cap. A special thanks to Old Royalist, Allam Ousman for the excellent write-ups both in his pre & post-match observations. The kids too had a lovely time with Santa & many competitions to take part.
The main events worked out were the 1st eleven cricket, veteran’s cricket, Ladies netball & the finale for the day;- the10-a- side Gulf Bradby for the Rameez Mahamoor challenge shield played under flood lights.
Unfortunately, Royalists had a nightmare day losing all the events but provided stiff competition to the Trinitians showing glimpses of Royal’s true potential & yesteryear’s successful performances.
Manjula Premaratne had the distinction of captaining both Cricket & Rugby teams in the 2007 encounters.
