The inaugural inter-schools Old boys Touch Rugby 7-a-side tournament organized by the Lanka Lions got off to a ceremonious start at the Dubai Exiles rugby grounds amidst a large gathering of supporters & an array of teams including the elite names in the Sri Lankan schools rugby circles.
In addition to our own Royal stalwarts, teams from Isipathana, Trinity, St. Peters, St. Joseph’s, St. Anthony’s to name a few provided that much needed competitiveness to the tournament.
Royal did well under the captaincy of Samantha Diyagubadu to reach semi-finals in the Cup competition after beating Fujairah combined schools & St. Benedicts.
The semi-final match with favourites St. Peters turned out to be a virtual final as the game ended with scores tied at 7-all. However, St. Peters scored first during extra-time to seal a well fought win & and also went on to beat Isipathana in the finals in a one-sided match.
